4/27/2002: Pine Ridge Pony Club Combined Test Division: Green as Grass (18" fences, Intro 2 dressage test) We had a slightly rocky beginning with a very tense dressage test. Very unusual for Shaman, but she's just beginning to figure out this showing stuff. We tied for 5th (out of 10 competators) with a score of 36. Shaman was bold and forward warming up for cross country. We just did a couple of fences and then walked and chilled out. Out on the course she was lovely--forward, looking for her fences...I think she had fun. We did have one extremely exciting moment when she drifted left upon landing and jumped a 4 foot BUSH that was right off the trail! Didn't make it through the water, but we were able to school it after the last rider went. Within 10 minutes, Shaman was walking, trotting and cantering through. Success! We ended fifth (refusals didn't count since we were in the baby class) wih just a few time penalties because of the water. Even though we had a few issues, I'm very pleased with Shaman--I love it that she's going to her fences well and jumping bravely. I can fix the tense dressage stuff, and hopefully we resolved a few water issues today!
4/21/02: Boulder Valley Eventing Association Spring Fling Two Phase Show Division: Beginner Elementary (18" fences, Intro 2 dressage test) Warm up for dressage was not at all what I expected it to be--Shaman was lazy! The busy atmosphere at the show didn't phase her one bit. She was wonderful for her first dressage test. The judge loved Shaman, said she was nice and forward and relaxed, but dinged me big time for my lack of accuracy. We were a half point behind the leader with a score of 52. Stadium was a breeze. Shaman looked a couple of the fences, but went over everything. We had a clean round, and finished 2nd, still a half point behind the first place finisher.
4/6/02: Schooling Hunter/Jumper Show at Dreamcatcher Shaman's very first show!! Our first class was hunter o/f, and Shaman was fabulous. She went over everything easily, but chipped in at one fence. I used this class as a warm up, rather than try to jump in the warmup arena--it was just too crazy! The second class was equitation o/f. We had one ugly moment when Shaman cross-cantered, but she was very nice besides that. Third class was hunter walk/trot. She was a good girl, very obedient, and we placed 6th. Fourth class was the equitation walk/trot. Again, Shaman was obedient. We placed 2nd. In all, a good day. This was the first time Shaman jumped a course of fences, and also the first time she jumped related fences.
