| This is my new puppy, Riana. She's a Rhodesian Ridgeback. The Ridgebacks are native to South Africa, and were originally bred as companions, guards and lion hunters. Ridgebacks are easy to recognize as they have a ridge of hair along the spine that runs towards the head, hence the name "Ridgeback". | Because of the serious lack of good quality RR's in Colorado, my mom and I looked out of state when we were looking for a puppy. We decided Oakhurst Kennels in California had what we were looking for. I used to show Samoyeds a few years ago, and I was looking for a dog I could show and win with. My mom really wanted a dog that could gradually take over as "house guardian" as our Samoyed Meggie got older. We were both looking for a companion dog with a lot of personality and spirit. | ||||||||||||||||||||
