* SETUP AND ROUGH TUNING *

Adjust float level

NEEDLE JET
	remove main jet
	set needle to leanest position
	start engine and let idle
	open up the throttle slowly

		IF engine floods as throttle is opened
		THEN needle jet is fine
		
		IF engine continues to run up to 75% and 100% open throttle
		THEN replace with larger needle jet
	
	engine should be rich at this point

MAIN JET
	set needle to middle position
	adjust main jet until engine runs well at 100% open throttle
	ignore response and acceleration at this point

IDLE JET
	back out idle speed screw until throttle slide is completely closed
	turn idle speed screw back in until the slide JUST opens
	close idle air screw completely
	back out 1 - 1.5 turns
	start engine
	obtain smooth 1200 rpm idle by adjusting idle air screw and idle speed screw
		
		IF engine does not idle smoothly
		THEN idle jets may need replaced
			
			IF screwing idle air screws in increases engine rpm
			THEN idle jets are too small
			
			IF screwing idle air screws out increases engine rpm
			THEN idle jets are too large
		
		idle air screw should not be turned out more than 3 turns
		rich mixture should occur when idle air screw is less than 1 turn out

Synchronize carburetors

THROTTLE SLIDE
	up to 25% throttle 
		
		IF engine coughs/dies as throttle is opened
		THEN change to richer throttle slide (less cutaway)

Resynchronize carburetors

Ensure idle jets are still appropriate

* FINE TUNING *

MAIN JET
	perform test run at 75% - 100% throttle	
	check plugs
	change main jet until plugs show proper mixture

NEEDLE
	perform test runs at 25%, 50% & 75% throttle
	
		IF engine snatches and surges
		THEN mixture is rich, lower needle one groove repeat as necessary

	perform steady acceleration runs between 25% - 50% and 50% - 75% throttle
	note where mixture is lean/rich
	
		IF mixture is lean at 25% - 50% throttle but rich at 50% - 75% throttle
		THEN needle taper is too steep, change to smaller angled needle

		IF mixture is rich at 25% - 50% throttle but lean at 50% - 75% throttle
		THEN needle taper is too small, change to steeper angled needle

MAIN JET
	perform test run at 75% - 100% throttle	
	check plugs
	change main jet until plugs show proper mixture
