Our story

We met on April 27,  1999 in Jackson, Ms on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend.  After attending a party with my best friend Maya she suggested we go to dinner with her friend and his roommate. I agreed and we met them at Jackson State University and followed them to the Waffle House. Upon arriving at Waffle House, I was immediately intrigued by his intelligence and his smile. After dinner we returned to school and said goodnight. The next morning he called to say good morning and over the next five years I have heard his voice every morning since.

Where we came from:

We share a southern Christian ancestry that is heavily rooted in Faith, Family and Friendship. India is a native of Jackson, Ms and Corey born in California, raised in Newton, Ms. Both sets of parents were from Mississippi. Corey graduated from Newton high school and is an alumni of Jackson State University and Mississippi  State University.  India gradated from Forest Hill  High School, and is an alumni of Jackson State  University and Tulane University. After dating a month we met each others families and discussed faith and commitment for the first time as a couple.

The Proposal

The commitment

Almost from the day they met, Corey and India knew that  they belonged together.  On date two, after football and  dinner  India looked at Corey and said "I am not looking for temporary and I don't' want short term". Corey echoed her words and told India that " he wasn't interested in " Sport Dating". So from that day on the couple fell more and more in love as every day passed with one goal.... making a life together. In the fifth year of dating Corey and India  began seriously discussing marriage and commitment in early May. They told their families about their hopes, dreams and commitment to a Christian  marriage with their pastor and friend Reverend Crump.

The day began with India  celebrating her  birthday and Corey celebrating his graduation. After a long day India decided to take a nap. She awoke to Corey asking her to come to the kitchen for a slice of cake. She followed Corey into the kitchen anticipating cake and ice cream. When they arrived in the kitchen he stopped and went down on one knee in front of their family and friends and asked her to marry him.  In front of family and friends he promised to love her for the rest of her life and she said YES.
