Nashville Audition
Corey's audition in Nashville impressed all of the judges. He sang 'Never Can say Good-bye. His unique voice has made him a stand-out competitor from the get-go. Ryan Seacrest referred to him as a Justin Guarini clone, his hair being the obvious reason for the comparisions, Corey replied with "He's not the only cat in America that can rock the fro. " Simon thought he had a good recording voice. Randy said he sounded good and very nice. Paula agreed and said he had star quality. And with that he was asked back to Hollywood.

Hollywood Audition
In Hollywood, only one of Corey Clark's auditions was put on television. It was the group audition, in which he performed 'Kiss from a Rose'. Corey's comments were not as good this time around. A lot of this probably had to do with the fact that he was one of the 'party boys'. The night before the group auditions Corey went out with fellow contestants Alden Wynn and Stephan. Both Corey and Stephan ended up being late the next morning. Needless to say, Corey's group members, Patrick Lake and Brian Collazo were not very happy about that. The show must go on, and Corey and his group pulled off the audition, not much worse than the rest of the groups that were shown. Randy commented that he needed to be in tune. Simon agreed and said he didn't sound great. Paula, who had just been serenaded by Corey claimed it was beautiful, but a little pitchy. Although it was not his best performance, Corey made it to the top 32. None of his other auditions was put on the show, leading me to believe they were all good enough to get him through to the next rounds.

In a critical time, where Corey needed to give the performance of his life, he pulled through. "America I promise, I won't forget the words this time, but I may surprise you," he said. That was one thing Corey was right about. He did surprise many people by giving his strongest audition on the show yet. All three of the judges were impressed, Randy and Paula gave him a standing ovation, while Simon clapped along with them. They commented on the great song choice. Paula claimed his performance was 'amazing and brilliant'. Randy commented that is was sensational and was happy it was in tune. Simon said that Corey had put him in a good mood, and that his performance made the competition exciting. Everyone was in agreement that Corey shined.

No one was sure if Corey was going to make it into the top two of the night. Everyone knew he had a lot of people who weren't his fans, and who were rooting against him, but they also knew he had one of the best performances of the night. Ryan Seacrest finally got to reading the top three of the night, and Corey was a part of it, along with Patrick Lake and Joshua Gracin. To no one's surprise the first winner announced was Joshua Gracin. After that, Corey was announced as the second winner of the night. Once again he gave an amazing performance of "Foolish Heart". All the judges were happy with America's decision.
