Mike Burris - References - Ben Rebeske

To Whom It May Concern:

For nearly four consecutive years, I have been a student of Mike Burris.  I find that his organized, regimented, and challenging training methodology is not only effective, valuable, and rewarding; but is also tempered with creativity, patience, and the ability to adapt to my needs as a student.  Even now, as my employ is based in Phoenix, I find great worth in coming back down to Tucson to workshop specifically with Mike.  His charisma and his dedication to both the student and his craft make learning a pursuit of passion.

Over the years, I’ve also seen Mike interact with other students in percussion workshops (including his well-known Krakatoa workshop).  He demonstrates confidence and poise, and manages to keep order and interest in what may seem to be an otherwise chaotic environment.  He is adept at speaking at various levels of student comprehension, whether it be child or adult, beginner or master.  Finally, he himself is always working on self-improvement.  He is in the midst of authoring a book that takes a unique look at the fundamentals of rhythm and rudiments for drumming; concepts I found easy to understand and helpful in my own drumming technique.  He is also involved in developing multiple educational websites, and refines his concepts and ideas with his own study and reading.  Mike is a perpetual learner.

Finally, I can only speak highly of his character.  He is an honest man, a good listener, and a motivated and energetic leader.  I am confident that any institution that is able to leverage Mike’s work ethic and talents can expect to see immediate positive results within their organization.
