President's Message
One of the things that has always been fun about Cordova is the Club's field trips. Not only do they provide a chance to get to know the club members in a more social setting than at the evening meetings, but they can present some great photo opportunities (I have taken several ribbon winners myself on Cordova trips). In recent years participation has been a challenge. The Old Sacramento Assignment Trip has consistently drawn a good crowd, but others have had only the organizers show up. Even the holiday light trip that used to be well attended has dropped off in the last couple years. Most recently the issue of potential liability has come up as an obstacle to Club-sanctioned field trips. Reportedly, our sister Sierra Camera Club has stopped having field trips for this reason.
There was definite interest expressed at last month's Color Slide meeting about having field trips, so I would like to hear your thoughts about field trips. Where would you like to go? If trips are organized, will you come? Do you have any alternatives to traditional field trips? And lastly, do you have any knowledge of how others clubs, photo or otherwise, have successfully addressed the potential liability issue?
Since this month's Second Monday breakfast falls on the Columbus Day state holiday, I will be able to attend for one of the few times a year. I was thinking that we could discuss field trips over coffee and waffles. Also feel free to drop me an e-mail at [email protected].
