On the night of August 30th, 1978 a family is murdered. What their importance is to the raging war, no one knows. Who their murderer is, no one knows. There is no Dark Mark conjured about their house yet it is unmistakably the work of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
On the morning of August 31st, a man who graduated from Hogwarts that very summer, a man who works for Albus Dumbledore's Order of the Phoenix is found hanging from the rafters of his family's ancestral home in Liverpool. He is covered in blood and curling at his feet is a piece of parchment. The poem:
With a flourish, he signed his name in the blood he had cut from the dead man's back. He rolled the note up and pocketed it. Later he would play with rope and a beam in his family's rafters. Right now, at this moment, there was work that needed doing.
The master had required this work be done smoothly and without hesitation. So he picked up the knife from the table where he had put it while casting Avada Kedavra and he went in search of the child the old coot wanted.
The girl was sitting there, staring at him with pale, blue eyes. Her dark hair was matted with her mother's blood and her dress bore remains of her father's entrails. The man's stomach had been particularly savoury and he picked a piece of tissue out from between his canines.
The girl began to cry, tears pouring down her cheeks yet she made no sound. She couldn't, she was mute from birth. The master wanted to protect her, teach her wandless magic...he wanted to make her into a killing machine. He had other plans.
With little cooing, he picked her up and when she was least expecting it, he drove the knife into her heart. So much blood...still warm and lovely.
If he couldn't have her, no one would.
He set her back down and licked his fingers before he strolled out the front door and into the shadows again.
Later, in his family's home, he stood upon an old chair with a noose around his neck. Then, with an uttered Wingardium Leviosa, he killed himself.

I was born, I did stuff, and one day, I will take over the world
with my army of Ewoks armed with sporks, candy, and the abrasive
German language. Fear me, dammit! Oh, and after that, I'll die.
Like the rest of the world.
