Biographical History
Commander Cora Ortiz was born in Cuba.  She is the half sister of General Miguel Ortiz, who currently resides on the UEO Board.  At the age of 3, she and her family moved to New Cape Quest after her mother, Elizabeth Ortiz, recieved a job position in Wolenczak Industries.  There, Cora formed a lifelong friendship with Lucas Wolenczak, who is currently the Science Officer aboard the seaQuest IV.

At the age of seventeen, Cora's parents were killed in the tragic marine accident caused by eco-terrorist Maximillian Scully, where a cruise ship carrying UEO diplomats and civillians was sunk from a torpedo hit meant for a whaling ship nearby.  After hearing the tragic news, Cora ran away from home and convinced a cryogencis doctor to put her in suspension for a few years so that her brother could finish his legal amount of serving time and leave the UEO Navy with an honorable discharge for when he would then take care of her.  When she awoke, however, the second seaQuest and its crew had already been classified as 'missing at sea, all hands aboard'.  Grieved at the loss of her brother, she asked to be suspended again, this time for ten years in the hopes that at some point in time the seaQuest would be found and her brother along with it.  Her sole request was to be reactivated if either were to be found ahead of the ten year schedule.

Cora was reactivated after ten years had passed, and by then the seaQuest had just reappeared.  Upon finding out, Cora immediately requested to become a part of the crew in any way possible, so she could be together with the only family she had left.  The agreement came down to her becoming an ensign, working sensors with her brother's guidance.

Over the course of several years, Cora has risen in the ranks quickly, particularly as a result of the UEO's low yielding of suitable commanding officers.  She eventually became the Executive Officer of the seaQuest III until its replacement, the seaQuest IV was built and named the UEO's new flagship, of which she now resides as that vessel's Executive Officer under the command of Captain Jason Morrell.
