Welcome to the website designed for the Miami - Coral Gables Athletics, an 18+ Adult Baseball Team in the South Florida Baseball League. The SFBL is an affiliate of the Men's Senior Baseball League, the largest adult baseball league in the nation.
Originally, the Coral Gables Reds (Spring 1998), the team combined with the Sogo Athletics to form the Coral Gables Athletics for the Fall 1998 Season and have been a strong hold since. The A's have combined for a 171-72-8 regular season record over nineteen 12-game seasons & one 15-game season and have made the playoffs in 18 of the 20 seasons. The A's have won the SFBL Premier Division four times (Fall 2004, Fall 2005, Fall 2006, and Spring 2008) and were finalists five other times. The A's also won the first ever Florida Hardball Championship during the Fall 2005 Season when they defeated the Naples Cubs 11-8 on 4/2/06. The Championship features the winner of the SFBL Premier Division and the Champion of the Fort Myers MSBL. They repeated the feat during the Fall 2006 Season when they defeated the Cape Coral Tigers 15-1 on 3/11/07 and did so once again during the Spring 2008 Season when the team deated the Fort Myers Hitmen 4-3 on 3/8/09. The A's won their 4th Season Championship during the Spring 2007 Season in the SFMABL defeating the Western Nationals 5-2.
Despite many changes in roster during the first 4 to 5 seasons, the A's have maintained a strong core of 10-12 players over the past 15 seasons which is where they have witnessed the most amount of success. The A's are always led by strong pitching and defense and steady hitting. The knowledge and appreciation of the game, though, separate them from the majority of the teams in their league.
The Miami - Coral Gables A's play two 12 game seasons a year, however their main focus has recently turned to tournament play (both locally and nationally). Tournament play is the highest level of competition for 18+ Baseball. The A's have played in seven MSBL Disney Holiday Classics at Walt Disney World's Wild World of Sports (00-03, 07-09), making the Semi-Finals during the 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2009 tournaments. The A's have had their most national success, however, at the MSBL's Fall Classic in Clearwater, FL during the past four years. In Fall Classic play, the Athletics were finalists in back to back years from 2004 to 2005 and then made the playoffs from 2006-2008. In three of the five years, the A's posted perfect round robin records!
Locally, the A's have played in several tournaments and won their first ever tournament in March of 2007 when they defeated the Miami Nationals 9-1 in the 2007 Relay for the Cure - March Madness Tournament in Miami Beach! The A's won all 4 games in the tournament! The A's repeated this feat in the 2007 NABF Orlando Fall Classic as they combined with the St Pete Blue Jays to post a 5-0 record en route to another Tournament Championship!
The A's won their first ever SFBL tournament during the 2008 Memorial Day weekend when they defeated the Fort Myers Hitmen 6-5 in the Championship Game of the 2008 Miami Open. The team posted a 5-0 record over the weekend. The tournament features some of the best talent in the South Florida area!
In regular season play, the A's are presently waiting to start their 21st Season, as the SFBL Spring 2009 Season is set to launch on Sunday, April 5, 2009!
This website will allow visitors to know the A's roster and sponsors as well as provide week-to-week updates on the team's games. An in-depth history is also provided on all the team's seasons and tournaments since 1999. |
