Meet Kira My Newfoundland Dog

Please meet Kira. We adopted Kira through Penn-Ohio Newfoundland Club Rescue on April 28, 2001. Kira's previous owners lived in Northern Ohio near the shores of Lake Erie. We're not exactly clear on her "story" but we do know that she was kept tied up outside. She was very neglected, and starved for attention. This all occurred before her first birthday.

Kira's birthday is May 2, 2000. She is full of high spirits and energy! I think that she could run and play all day long! She loves every dog toy in our house, and sometimes has trouble telling the difference between my shoes and some of her toys! She needs to be with us wherever we go. She has some separation anxiety, but we're working through that!

"I'm tired, but I had fun."

Kira's favorite things to do:

  • Go for walks
  • Play, Play and Play
  • Go in the car ANYWHERE!!!
  • Go to the Dog Park
  • Go to the lake
  • Pester Cora, Sailor, and anyone else available

States Kira's been to:

  • Indiana
  • Ohio (Home)
  • Pennsylvania
  • West Virginia

Other Kira News

Since Kira has lived with us, she's gone to several SCNC events in Indianapolis. She seemed to have a good time, although she gets very excited when she see's other dogs! In fact, she got so excited while at Eagle Creek that she brayed like a donkey! She settles down after a few minutes and usually has a pretty good day! We even spent the night one time in October, during the weekend of SCNC's Draft Test. She wasn't sure of what to think, but she did really well. I did awaken several times in the night to find her staring at me!!!

During the summer we made several visits to our place at the Lake (Grand Lake St. Mary's). I was a little nervous about what she'd do when she saw the water. I had visions of being dragged into the water when we were out for our midnight walks! My worries were for nothing. She did really great. She was a little uneasy with the new surroundings, but once we all settled in for the night, she did too. Finally, it was time for a boat ride and swim.

As we headed out onto the lake, Kira was a little unsure about what was happening. She was fascinated by the water, the waves, and the tree swallows! In fact, she tried to jump overboard to catch one! We arrived at the "swimming hole". Kira was very curious. The lake is fairly shallow here, so Russell jumped out, and pulled us to the island. He then got called to Kira, and she jumped in. At first, she didn't know what to think.
