Meet Cora My Newfoundland Dog

Cora's registered name is "Waidin's Encore CGC CD TDI". The CGC stands for "Canine Good Citizen". The CD stands for "Companion Dog". The TDI stands for "Therapy Dog International". All of these titles are recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club). Cora's birthday is October 27, 1997. She came to live with us when she was 10 months old. She is a very sweet and loving Newf, and is very well behaved. She loves treats, and her worst habit is going up to people, and smelling their pockets, hoping to find a treat!

Cora and I are certified by the Delta Society as a Therapet Team. We visit children residing at both the Battered Women's Shelter and in the Intensive Treatment Unit at St. Joseph's Children's Treatment Center in Dayton.

Travels

Cora has had many adventures. She has been to Florida to visit Russell's Mom. She didn't get to go to the beach though, because of strict laws, which restrict dogs from most beaches. We had a great time though, walking, and looking around. She was a big hit at the campground as well! We've taken her camping several times. She loves our camper and settles in quite well! She loves going to our place at the lake, and loves riding on the pontoon. She's not too sure about the water though, which is odd for a Newf. She likes to wade along the shoreline, and nose around for dead fish and any other goodies people have left behind.

Cora went to the 2000 NCA National Specialty in Warwick, Rhode Island, where she earned her CD! She placed 2nd in the Novice A, and came away with some very nice ribbons and prizes. We were all very excited! While in Rhode Island, She did get to go to the beach in Rhode Island, and loved it! Cora also went to the 2001 NCA National Specialty in Frankenmuth Michigan. She was in the Honor's Parade, and received a lovely medal, for earning her CD the year before. Some of her very "bestest" Newf friends were there, The Grosch Family (Gary, Jeannie, and their two newfs, Sarah and Samantha). Gary is one of Cora's most favorite people. He's taken her on very nice walk, and of course, gives her Oreo's. Cora knew EXACTLY which room they were staying in at The Drury Inn, where we all were staying. She'd always stop and sniff around, looking for an Oreo!!!
