| My name is Manya S. Pagiavla and I was born in Athens-Greece. I am an art historian, interested (if possibly!)to undertake a career in the academia. My first degree is a Bachelor's in History of Art awarded with Distinction. After 4 years in Colchester as a student at the University of Essex, I recently moved to Cambridge/Cambridgeshire. I first came to England to do my Masters; since then, I got another Distinction for my MA, the opportunity to do research at PhD level, three scholarships, all together a better future. I am in the final stages of my doctoral thesis which is entitled 'El Greco's Theory of Art through his Readings and Writings; A Platonic and an Aristotelian Exegesis of his Oeuvre, an analysis of his annotations on Vasari's Vitae (1568), D. Barbaro's edition of Vitruvius (1556), and Serlio's Architettura (1566).' In 2003, I travelled to Madrid and Toledo where I did some archival research, the fruit of which was to be entrusted by the Spanish government, the Museo/Casa of Greco and the university Autonoma of Madrid with the transcription of the unedited marginalia on Xenophon's Opera Graece (Florence, 1516). Some months later, to celebrate the big exhibition on El Greco in NY and London, I organised my first conference, the speakers of which included Professor Nano Chatzidaki (University of Ioannina), Professor Val Fraser (University of Essex) and the curator himself of the above exhibition, Professor David Davies (UCL). Currently, I do some undergraduate teaching in my department at the university and I am writing up my thesis. My future plans in the short term include the organisation of (another) conference, and in the long term, publications and a postdoc. |
