COMMENTS: We are Tarahumaras from Chihuahua and would like to know more about our brothers, the Apaches . Here in Romigarachi, Nanarachi, Tehuerichi in the Ejido of Carichi are still many sites where Apaches used to run free, like las Tinajas where a few Apaches killed 24 men, or Tres Castillos were the Apache Vitorio was killed. Please understand that it is big surprise for us to see the poverty of the once great Apache nation. We are thinking about asking for help to you. from our Sabochi government. We would love to receive some stories, information and history of those Apache people who once ran free through this land.

We Apaches are heartened that Germany's Max Planck Institute abandoned their Mount graham radio telescope because the mountain is too wet, clouded, and unsuitable for astronomy. <>Although the University of Arizona will never win a place in astronomy because of the visibiity from our sacred mountain, the UofA have already achieved several firsts for a U.S. university:
1) The first university to arrest a Native American (Apache) for praying on our sacred mountain, a mountain the U.S. government has acknowledged as sacred to Native Americans.
2) The first university to demand prayer permits from native Americans praying on Mount Graham.
3) The first university to produce a written plan to eliminate the religion and traditional culture of the Apaches.
4) The first university to lobby to exempt itself from U.S. Native American cultural and religious protection law and U.S. environmental laws.
5) The first university to fight against listing and protecting an endangered animal species

We Apaches, our elders, our medicine people, and our tribal governments beseech all Americans not to let this university continue to inflict harm upon us, and to relocate their telescope to where they can conduct real science without harm to people or the environment - and without impaired visibility!

Your help is very important for my work and proof that Native American (Indian) soldiers risked their lives for Europe and Czech independence during World War II. Sadly the names of these heroes are not known to people in the Czech Republic and Europe. I thank you in advance for any help

I am just an ordinary working class man from a little village in the west of England, and although I have always had an interest in the American Indian tribes, I have never yet had the opportunity to visit YOUR lands, but I am now determined to do so. I have always felt that your people were very badly treated by the Government, as were the African nation by the British and Dutch.........I say good luck to you, for all you stand for that is honest and right. I shall return to your site, as your words are most profound and thought provoking........thank you for your enlightenment. And I hope that one day I will see YOUR LAND with my own eyes......THANK YOU.

Hon Dah!
I'm sorry that I do not know more about what you write. I stumbled across your web page by accident and stayed to read it. There is much truth in what you write. However, I don't understand some of it, I've never been blessed to visit FAIR. I've never see the wonderful signs you talk about... but even so.. the power and love behind your narration spoke to me. For many years, I have been troubled by the 'use' of land (misuse I think) that has been happening in America. I confess that I know nothing about who 'owns' what or any political things... I'm talking about the animals and life on the land being misused.
I grew up in a beautiful pristine land in the mountains of Maine. Our family protected that land for a century. But... it was sold to someone else, who broke with the agreement, and in turn sold the land to vacationers to build little cottages. The land h s been stripped of it's natural watershed and habitat. My friend, the beaver, has been 'relocated' (killed I think). The deer and bear, moose and sparrow have vanished. The water of the lake is spoiled and no longer crystal clear, drinkable. I hope you ca read how my heart still bleeds for that. I am ashamed I could not find a way to do anything more than what I tried.
I am a 'white' person. But I want to learn more. Your words express what I feel. Yet, I'm not one of you (to my knowledge). Is there a place I can go (I live in south Florida) or is there something that I can read that is about what you write? I don't want to read some trash from the 'Trust Me' government, I would like to know more about how you and others like you see life. kim

At first sight of the web-site I fully enjoyed the colorful photos of many young women that are now in their late twenties and early thirties. But, I noticed that this ceremony is being told through the eyes of a man who can only talk about the outline. If only this story could be told by a woman, there would be so much more that could be taught and told. I AM A FULL-BLOODED WHITE MOUNTAIN APACHE. My family participated in a few of these ceremonies, but there is still more to be told/shared with those who really want to know and learn. Interested people can write to me at the above e-mail address.

Just saw your photo of old Apache artifacts and one of them got my attention. You can see a figure resembling a bird's track carved on it. For Finno-Ugrian peoples (Finns, Saami, Estonians, Hungarians, and many small nations scattered around modern Russia in Siberia) it is the symbol of Waterbird.
The old legend says that when Air Maiden was sleeping in the water, a waterbird that had not found a place to lay its eggs, made its nest on the knee Air Maiden. Out of the seven eggs the world got its beginn ng. Waterbird was a favoured motif in ancient jewellery, often the feet hanging loosely from the body of the bird, sometimes only the feet - or the track of a foot - making a pendant, because it was the symbol of fertility. So we may be far apart, yet cl ser than we think!

I am a Warm Springs and White Mountain Apache, and I am giving the following information on a so-called Apache shaman called Morgan Eaglebear (Maez), who claims he is the great-great grandson of Geronimo. Ms. Ruey Darrow, former chairperson of the Oklahoma Apache Tribe states that person is not the grandson of Geronimo and should not be selling Apache religion. I have also received positive information of this FAKE shaman selling himself as a healer and spiritual reader. To quote Mr. Silas Cochishe, grandson of Naiche, "APACHE Religion is not to be bought or sold by fake Apache wananbe shaman. Usen will provide"

Let us pretend I visit your house: You offer me food and rest. I decide to stay. I order you and your family around, use your things and rearrange the rooms to my liking. I take down your photos and religious symbols, replace them with my own, and insist that you speak my language. One day, I dig up your garden and replace it with crops that I can sell. You and your family must now buy all your food from me. Later, I invite my father and his buddies over. They bring guns. We take your keys. I forge a deed and declare my father to be owner of your house. I bring more people. Some work for me. Some pay me to stay in your house. I seize your savings and spend it on my friends. You and your family sleep on the porch. Finally, you protest. Being reasonable, I let you stay in one corner of the house and give you a small allowance, but only if you behave. I tell you, "Sorry, I was wrong for taking your house." But when you demand your house back, I tell you to be realistic. You are part of this family now, whether you like it or not, I say. Besides, this is for your own good! For all that I have done for you, why aren't you grateful?"

If you are trying to research Apache ancestry, remember Apaches never mention the name of a deceased person, so living Apaches seldom "recall" the names of their ancestors. If you believe an ancestor was an enrolled Tribal member, write to the Tribal Enr llment Office of that Tribe. Other resources are state Historical Societies, U. S. Army records, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs records at: http://www.doi.gov/bia/ancestry.html

"First he came to us as by chance. We taught him how to fish. Next time he came he demanded we pay something he called taxes and promised to protect us against enemies we had never had. When he came the third time, he said he owned everything we had - land and water. We didn't know what he was really after. No nation ever conquered us, and we never signed any treaty". Ole Magga, spokesman for the Saami (or Lapps, living in the arctic borderlands of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia).

Finnish people are related to Saami, and to many other minority groups scattered around Siberia, people who practice their natural religion, people like the nenets, who still lead a nomadic life, people who still have shamans.

"Shamanism existed in its most classic form in central and northern Asia and in northern America"(Bean&Vane). Perhaps that is why I feel more kinship with Native Americans than with the Europeans who surround us.
