Thoughts from the Chair
Some teachers make some very bad judgements. Thomas Edisons teacher declared him too stupid to learn. He didnt learn to talk until he was four and he flunked grade school math. Edison went on to become a great inventor and introduced the first electric light bulb.
Good old Mother Nature sure did it to us this time around. I don't know how many of you tried to get to the meeting in Langley, but I couldn't even get off the hill here in Citadel Heights. As a result of the inclement weather, our January meeting will be postponed until March 24th. I know the schedule says March 31st, but that's Easter Sunday, and I really don't think that's a good time to be holding one of our meetings. In last months New Letter, we included a full page explaining the new "COSTS" of Ostomy supplies associated with the changes to the BC Medical Plan. WHAT CAN I SAY. I've received a few calls from members who are not happy about the situation and I don't blame them. It's not as if we choose to buy these supplies, we have no alternative. If you happen to have extended medical coverage, it's not too bad a situation, FOR NOW, but if you don't, then it's nothing but a tax grab on the backs of people who don't have any other choice. First the Federal Government takes away our Disability Tax Credit by rewording their regulations, and then the Provincial Government sticks it to us by redoing the Benefits of the Provincial Medical Plan. Some fun eh? Perhaps the only answer is to start a mass letter writing campaign to our MLA's, or better yet, the Minister of Health, and see just how much flack they will take before somebody does something about it. What I'm afraid of is that some of our members are liable to revert to the old days of using bathtub plugs and baggies for their Ostomies. Let's hope it doesn't get to that point. Our meeting this month will be held on Sunday, Feb 24th, at the Dogwood Pavilion, 624 Poirier St, Coquitlam, at 1:30 pm. It will be in the form of a Rap Session and Andy Manson has promised to be in attendance and hopefully will bring a couple of other ET's with her. Unfortunately, because of other commitments, we will be holding our meeting in the "CRAFTS ROOM" at the rear of the building. I will try to have signs posted for your convenience. Bring all your problems and concerns and see what can be done about them. So until then: CHEERS ALL JIM
