Here's a few pictures from my July 2004 trip to Germany. It's just a small sample...I'll save you the torture of looking through all of my 600+ and my buddy Hillary's 400 or so. We had a great time and can't wait to go on another trip together.
Our first week was spent in Schliersee, a climactic spa in the northern portion of the German Alps. Great little place, very relaxing and chock full of things to do outside.
This is the Catholic church in town, St. Sixtus. I loved its creamy yellow color. Very simple exterior, but extremely baroque inside. The picture below was done just at sunset.
The Alps, walking on our way to the castle Linderhof.
And everyone's favorite, the Sleeping Beauty castle, Neuschwanstein.
Here's my buddy Hillary and myself in the coach, getting ready to shove off on our way up the mountain to the castle.
Tiny little mountain church, way atop a peak in the Alps.
Beautifully ripe currants.
This is the typical architecture of the houses in Duderstadt, the town I lived in during my exchange student year in high school, a style called Fachwerk. The town is 1,075 years old. And here I thought it was a great thing to be celebrating the bicentennial when I was over there!!!
This is the Rathaus, or city hall, one of the oldest working city halls in Europe.
Here's my buddy Hillary again.
Waiting for our tour through Linderhof to begin.
Waiting...again...for our tour through Neuschwanstein to begin.
Once again in Duderstadt, this is the Westerturm, or the western tower of what had once been the city's wall. Notice the twisted tower? Supposedly the work of the devil himself!
Here's part of my German "family", the folks I lived with for a year when I was 16. On the left is Annelie, on the right is her (my) brother Martin. Great people, and I was SOO happy to see them again.
