Welcome
to my obsession with Gypsies and the Gypsy culture and history, as well
as the modern connotations of the word. Unfortunately I don't
have very much here right now, but that will be remedied when I have
time in my wandering schedule.

This page will be used to update my occasional wanderings. I
do, from time to time, throw off the ways of modern America and just
wander about, meeting people and seeing things. The most recent
walk-about was late summer and early fall of 2003. See that below.
Also, please check out what was my pet project for so long the
Romani/English glossary. Now completed!!!
2003

My first stop on my first day. Somewhere in the Appalachian
Mountains in North Carolina, I took a stop at a pretty creek to pitch
my watch into the river. And take a picture of where I decided to
start ignoring time.
Graveyard Fields in the Mountains of North Carolina. After
I stopped to visit with my friend Mary for a few days, (and try to
convince her to come with me) I stopped to camp out here.
Beautiful area that a forest fire swept through several decades ago
that is still recovering. I camped right next to the stream you
can see in the left half of the picture.

Just a lunch stop in the mountains at the top of a valley.

Made a stop in Ohio to see my friend Kat and go to OHRF. Wenches
spinning outside a garb booth. The tall, pretty one all the way
left is Kat. Isn't this a fun picture?

This man had the coolest hat in the world! We had to get a
picture.

The Blade Brothers! We decided that they had the best show in the
faire and became groupies for a day. We were at their show so
many times in on day, they started adding us to the act. I hope
they decide to come to GARF someday!

Dawn at a campsite somewhere in Ohio or Pennsylvania. I loved
camping right near rivers. The water rushing at night was such a
wonderful sound, put me right to sleep, and I often woke up before
dawn, rested and ready to face the day.

I was very disturbed to see a nuclear power plant cooling tower right
next to the highway in Ohio, near the great lakes.

View of the dock from the ferry I took out ot an island, just because I
like to ride on boats.

Can't travel randomly around Pennsylvania without visiting Hershey
World. It really wasn't that impressive.

This is my friend Nikki, Madame of Local #9 of the IWG, and she who
sheltered me from the hurricane getting her first roguing at PARF,
while I was visiting.

Winter of 2002, just after final exams, several friends and I were
sitting around a burrito joint and got seized by a bohemian
impulse. We decided that we wanted to see the ocean.
Nevermind that it was eight o'clock at night, we were in the mountains,
at least a six hour drive from the beach, and it was the middle of
December. Five of us piled into a friend's small car and set
off. It was quite an adventure involving a police search, Waffle
House and aliens stealing our snack cakes, but at 5:30 in the morning
on December 13th, we were swimming in the ocean in Savannah. It
was the best thing any of us had done in years, so much fun. It
only whetted my appetite for wider wanderings to come. I would
much encourage anyone reading this to take that random, impulsive road
trip; you will find it well worth it.
