Mrs. Cope's
Homework Policies

Your child will be expected to read each night during this school year.  I want  them to choose what they would like to read.  They may choose to read the newspaper or an article on the internet.  Your child may wish to read their library book.  Some nights they may wish to use their Social Studies or Science assigned reading.  As long as they
read at least fifteen minutes aloud every night, I am fine with whatever they choose.  However, you must sign their reading log to indicate that your child did read.  I will be giving a grade for signed reading logs.

Your child will also receive a spelling list at the beginning of each month with the month’s spelling words listed.  Keep this at home for review.  Your child will be expected to complete their spelling contract.  They will receive class time and should finish easily if they use their time wisely.  They will also have a math assignment each night as well.

What if my child does not complete their homework?
Your child will have reading and math homework each night.  At times, I will assign homework in other subjects as well.  However, I will not overload your child with homework since I am a parent and understand this completely.  Therefore, I expect your child’s homework to be completed and turned in by the next day.  If your child’s homework is not turned in, they will receive a zero for that subject area until it is completed.  They will receive one day during recess and at home that night to complete the work.  If they complete the work, they will receive a late grade of 80.  Your child will receive a homework grade each nine weeks for each subject area, which will be averaged with their grades for this subject.  If your child is absent they will have two days to complete missed work.
