TAYOR
Where's Ms. Merryweather?
HARLEY
She was unexpectedly delayed, but she will be joining us at the next port.
Taylor appears displeased and turns toward her in his chair.
TAYOR
What about our dinner meeting tonight? I'm on a tight schedule.
HARLEY
Yes, Sir. I'm in possession of her notes and the proposal. She asked that we proceed with the meeting as planned.
Taylor studies Harley a long moment in silence. He plays with his chips with almost certain annoyance. He finally smiles.
TAYOR
Okay. I'll give you the opportunity to submit her proposal. Understand, I'm not always this accommodating.
HARLEY
I appreciate your understanding, Sir.
TAYOR
Do you have a copy of Ms. Merryweather's proposal?
HARLEY
Uh, yes. It's back in my cabin.
Taylor turns back toward the table and places a two hundred dollar bet.
TAYOR
My assistant, Damon, will escort you to your cabin. You can give the copy to him.
Harley glances at Damon, who eyes her with a serious, emotionless expression. He's stern and creepy.
HARLEY
Yes, of course.
Taylor waves them off. Harley uncertainly leaves the table with Damon following.
INT. CORRIDOR
Harley walks along the corridor and glances to Damon, who walks near her. He maintains his emotionless expression. Harley attempts a smile.
HARLEY
Did you just start as Mr. Underwood's assistant? What happened to Jean?
Damon glances briefly at Harley and appears unaffected.
DAMON
Jean doesn't get on well with ships.
HARLEY
Understandable. This is my first ocean venture. Have you traveled with Mr. Underwood before?
DAMON
Yes, extensively. I'm his personal guard.
Harley glances at Damon with a somewhat surprised look. She manages a polite smile and nods.
INT. HARLEY'S CABIN
Harley sorts through a stack of papers in her briefcase while Damon casually looks over her cabin. She glances back at him and his compulsion to pry. She appears extremely tense by his presence in her cabin and his interest in her scattered items. She attempts to search through her papers more quickly. Damon casually picks up a bottle of perfume and smells it. He raises a brow and eyes the bottle. Harley locates the papers and turns toward him with a forced smile.
HARLEY
Here are the papers.
She extends them to him. He eyes the papers, casually replaces the perfume in no particular hurry, and then takes the papers from her. He casually turns and leaves her cabin without a word. Harley stares after him and rubs her hands along her arms.
HARLEY
Okay, he scares me. |
