Chapter Seven

Around eight o'clock that night, Whitney headed down the stairs wearing a form fitting, black dress she had bought in town.  She carried her shoes so she wouldn't be heard on her way out.  She was dressed to kill and her makeup was almost perfect.  Whitney headed quietly down the hall.  She noticed the study door was open.  Whitney could see Brent at his computer.  She quickly passed by and hoped he didn't see her.
Whitney, Brent announced from behind her.  Where are you going?
Whitney turned around.  Brent leaned in the doorway to the office with his arms folded across his chest.
Out, she remarked simply, with Nadine.
Dressed like that? he asked sternly.
Whitney groaned softly then attempted a smile.  Yes, Im meting Nadine at a club.  Youre welcome to come along.
Brent appeared surprised by her words.  He relaxed then shifted.  I cant.  Im expecting some transmissions.
Whitney took a step closer.  From my father?
Im not sure if hell be in contact or not, Brent replied.  You could stay and find out.
Whitney looked down.  I cant.  I have to meet Nadine, she said softly.  I promised.  She turned and headed for the door.  Ill be back by midnight.

Whitney had to fight her way through the crowd just to enter the nightclub.  The room was filled with people and smoke.  The dimly lit area didn't allow her to see much, although she was used to running around in the dark.  She didn't know how she would ever find Nadine in this crowd, yet this was what she used to do every Friday night before the takeover.  She walked past several regulars from back when she used to frequent the place.  They didn't seem to be disturbed too much by the alien forces.  She then spotted Nadine across the room.  She was fairly easy to find, especially since she wore a red spandex dress.  Denny sat at the bar toward the back, but he didnt acknowledge either women.  Nadine pushed her way through the crowd to meet her.
Nadine sighed and shook her head.  I almost gave up on you.
Brent gave me a hard time about the dress, Whitney replied.
Nadine laughed softly.  Probably made him jealous.
Whitney ignored her comment and looked around the crowded room.  I see Denny, but wheres Frazer?
He couldnt make it, Nadine informed her.  Hes on some big lead for more explosives.
Whitney continued to search the club.  Where are they?  When I spoke to you this afternoon, you assured me theyd be here.
They're here every Friday night, Nadine said.  Have some patience.
Whitney no longer had any patience.  They wandered around the nightclub and listened to the loud music within the small area.  Whitney looked around once more then noticed two men walk through the door.  Whitney tapped Nadine on the shoulder then nodded toward the two men.  It was more then obvious they were aliens.
             That's them, Nadine announced.
             Are you sure?
The alien men found their way to the bar and ordered some drinks.  It wasn't unacceptable for aliens to enjoy their time off at local bars.  They acted like they owned the planet but that was about to change.
Yes, they're aliens, Nadine replied.  I can see the black in their eyes.
Whitney squinted to be certain.  She shook her head.  All I see is smoke.  She waved her hand before her face.  I cant believe I practically lived at this place a year ago.
So what's the plan? Nadine asked curiously.
We need to get cozy with them.
Nadine glared at Whitney.  Oh, great--now we get to flirt with the enemy.  Nadine looked around the room and sighed.  Then what?
You entertain the one, and Ill pick pocket the other, Whitney replied simply.
             Nadine stared at her.  Whitney!
Whitney walked onto the dance floor with Nadine following against her better judgment.  They approached the bar.  Whitney tapped the bar near the bartender, Oscar.  He nodded with a secret smile.  Denny eyed both women with a seductive smile.  Nadine casually slapped him on the face as she passed.
What if youre caught? Nadine asked softly.
I wont be, Whitney replied.  Mertz taught me well.
Nadine sighed.  Of course he did, he was a professional.  They made their way closer.  I really dont like this plan.
What isnt there to like? Whitney asked.  Just keep the other occupied.
Thats the part I dont like, Nadine muttered.
They paused near the aliens at the bar.  Whitney moved along side the taller of the two.  The aliens immediately looked both women over and smiled.
I hope you dont mind my being forward, but I couldnt help noticing the two of you are aliens.
Yes, the taller replied.  Does that fascinate you?
Oh, yes, Whitney replied.  We think you men are so brave and strong, unlike these whimps on our planet.  Would you care to dance?
The alien men escorted them to the dance floor.  They danced a couple of fast songs then danced a slow one.  Whitney could feel the aliens backbone through the shirt he wore.  He danced entirely to close, but that was almost necessary if she was to remove his identification holder.  Nadine distracted her dance partner as Whitney went for the alien's back pocket. Whitney extended the aliens identification to Denny as he passed.  They continued to dance.  Once the song was over, Nadine easily slipped away from the alien shed been with.  Whitney pulled away from the alien shed been with.
It was nice dancing with you, but I must meet some friends, Whitney said and attempted to leave.
They'll wait for you, he replied with persistence.  You're with me.  I doubt they'll complain.
I really must go, Whitney said and turned to leave.
The alien grabbed her arm.  I dont think so--
Whitney kicked out backwards and hit the man in the knee.  When he dropped to his knees, she spun around and snap kicked him in the chin, knocking him to his backside.  Silence fell over the club.  Every human stared with a look of surprise.  The alien sprang to his feet with his claws extended.  A human officer intercepted Whitney before the alien could react.
You're under arrest, the officer announced and handcuffed her.
The alien checked his pocket.  My identification holder is gone.
The officer frisked Whitney but didnt find anything.  Nadine was also searched.  Oscar leaned across the bar and pointed to the dance floor.
