It's really none of my business. I'm not responsible for him or his actions. We just try
to stay out of each other's way.
REGGIE
Your compassion is overwhelming. I'm having a tough time understanding why
you'd help me.
RAVEN
You're mistaken. I haven't been helping you.
Reggie smiles with apparent humor.
REGGIE
If you say not. No matter--I like having you around.
Raven appears slightly bewildered. Reggie gently runs her hand along his lower arm, smiles, then turns toward the stream. Dylan Creature continues to splash around.
REGGIE
Dylan, time to go.
Raven watches her a moment longer and maintains his bewildered state.
RAVEN
Why would you like having me around?
Reggie looks back at Raven with a strange look then smiles warmly.
REGGIE
Despite your superiority complex, you're actually cute. Something about you
puts me at ease. I can't say I get that from a lot of guys--
(pause)
Probably because you're not a mortal male. Which makes me wonder why your
brother reacts toward women and you don't.
RAVEN
My goals are a bit higher than Koon's. Koon wants instant gratification, whether
it be physical or emotional. There's nothing spiritual about Koon. He wants to
rule his pathetic little world and be worshipped by frightened creatures.
REGGIE
And your goals?
RAVEN
It would be tough for you to understand.
REGGIE
Try me.
RAVEN
My goal is to be a light force. Our version of Gods.
REGGIE
Well, I've never heard that one before. You and Koon aren't so different. He wants
to be a god too--but his is the evil sort.
Raven offers a tiny smile and appears almost humored. Reggie returns the smile and appears slightly embarrassed.
REGGIE
Almost like studying to become a priest. I really feel bad about kissing you now.
RAVEN
You don't have to feel bad about that. Over half of our light forces have children.
REGGIE
(surprise)
Oh, I just assumed--
(pause)
Never mind.
Raven smiles then looks toward the woods just across the stream.
RAVEN
That path looks friendly. I wouldn't doubt it leads to the beach.
Raven looks to Reggie and flaunts a smile.
RAVEN
You'd better get going.
Raven suddenly transforms into a black hawk and flies away. Reggie watches him fly into the darkness. Reggie hides her smile, turns, and hurries toward the stream.
