REGGIE
Please, I'm begging you. You're probably the only one who can help me.
RAVEN
(casual)
There's nothing you have that I want.
Reggie stares at him a long moment. She appears slightly tense but attempts to remain proud.
REGGIE
I saw the way you were looking at me tonight.
Raven stares at her a long moment in silence.
RAVEN
You got the wrong idea.
(pause)
I'm not mortal, and I don't subscribe to mortal pleasures. That wasn't lust--it was pity.
(pause)
I gave you an opportunity to dig yourself out of this, but you didn't take it. You made your decision.
Raven turns to leave. Reggie places her hand to his lower arm and stops him. He looks back at her with some surprise. She uncertainly removes her hand from his arm.
REGGIE
My brother is all I have. Yours took him from me. Maybe you don't care about your brother, but I love mine.
(pause)
I'd never be able to live with myself if I don't do all within my power to save him from this fate worse than death.
(pause)
He'd give his life for me, and I'd gladly do the same for him.
Raven stares at her a long moment in silence.
RAVEN
It's exactly that sense of compassion that will be your downfall.
REGGIE
Please--help me.
Raven stares at her a moment then slowly shakes his head.
RAVEN
Sorry, I don't interfere with my brother's lifestyle--even if I don't agree with it.
Raven turns to leave. Reggie stares at him with frustration and anger.
REGGIE
I guess I can't blame you for being afraid of him. He's quite powerful.
Raven suddenly stops and turns back toward her with a look of surprise.
RAVEN
I'm not afraid of Koon. Koon is a warped and twisted little rodent with a god complex.
REGGIE
Just seems to me, if you were half as powerful as he was, you wouldn't be afraid to help me.
Raven glares at Reggie with a cold expression. He takes step closer to her. She stands her ground and appears bold, but the fear can be seen in her eyes. He stares at her a moment longer and appears to relax. A tiny smile crosses his face.
RAVEN
You certainly are resourceful.
REGGIE
I have to be. I'm not leaving without my brother.
Raven studies her a moment longer and appears curious.
RAVEN
You'd really sacrifice yourself to save your brother?
Reggie nods. Raven hesitates, looks to the closed, dining room doors, then looks back at Reggie.
RAVEN
Your problems with my brother are your problems--just to be straight.
(pause)
But if you would go through all of this for your brother, then you should go through it with your brother. |
