FADE IN:
EXT. COUNTRY TAVERN -- NIGHT
We see the country tavern alive with cheerful, drunken locals. They drink, line-dance, play pool, and socialize. We see a lanky man in his late twenties, Dylan Rampert, playing pool with another man, Oscar. Dylan appears cheerful while apparently winning at the pool game. A young, attractive woman in her early twenties, Regina Rampert, watches the game from the sidelines. Dylan wins the game, gloats some, and collects his money.
OSCAR
One more game.
DYLAN
Just one more.
Dylan approaches Reggie and collects his bottle of beer from the table near her.
DYLAN
Are you sure you don't want to go someplace else? I mean, this is your college graduation night. I'm feeling guilty about getting off so cheap tonight.
REGGIE
(humored)
That was a very nice dinner you took me to. You don't have to go overboard, Dylan.
DYLAN
Mom and dad would have. They'd be proud of you. (pause) I'm proud of you.
Reggie smiles warmly and places her hand on his lower arm.
REGGIE
Thanks, Dylan.
DYLAN
You're the only sister I've got.
(pause)
Thank God.
Reggie chuckles lowly and playfully smacks his arm.
REGGIE
I should have seen that one coming. Can't be serious for more than five minutes.
DYLAN
And I often struggle the last three of that.
(pause)
I will tell you something. If Brady doesn't stop checking you out every time I turn around, I'm going to turn totally serious on him.
REGGIE
He's a harmless pervert.
DYLAN
Not from the reports I've heard.
OSCAR
Come on, Dylan. Winner breaks.
DYLAN
Let me beat this guy one more time, then we'll go home.
Reggie smiles and nods. Dylan returns to the pool table. Reggie finishes her drink then heads toward the rest room. A man in his mid to late twenties, Brady, approaches her as she passes.
BRADY
Heard you're officially a college graduate tonight. Congratulations.
Reggie offers a smile but doesn't bother to stop.
REGGIE
Thanks, Brady.
Brady cuts off her path to the rest room. She's forced to stop and glares at him. Brady smiles cheerfully.
BRADY
Since you won't be tied up with your studies anymore, maybe we could pick up where we'd left off.
REGGIE
As I recall, we'd left off with me telling you if you ever touched me again, I'd cut your child bearing years in half. |
