About Me

I am currently the computer/technology coordinator for Eagle Butte School District 20-1 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. I work at the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Upper Elementary School which houses grades three through six. I am about two-thirds done with my M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology from Emporia State (KS) University. I also have taught sixth grade here, and I still teach sixth grade computer classes.

I previously taught at Paradise Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada (Clark County School District) where I was a fifth grade teacher.

I received my B.S. in Elementary Education and History with a social studies minor from the University of Wisconsin--Superior in May 1995 summa cum laude. I was a member of the Future Teachers Association and worked at the COPE Center, when the COPE Center was still cool. (It is a sad shambles, today.) My time at the COPE is when I was first introduced to the Internet; we used to use Gopher to download sound clips. Every Friday, when there were almost no classes in session, we used to spend the afternoon playing Yahtzee on the Center's Macs.

I received my A.A. in Liberal Arts with High Honors from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in May 1992. I was a charter member of the Fond du Lac branch of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society of two-year colleges and received several awards including ones for Best Freshman, History Student, American History Student, and European History Student.

I have been a life-long computer fanatic. My first machine was a Texas Instruments 99/4A. I have also had an Atari 800XL, Commodore 64, Atari 520ST, Atari 1040ST, Amiga 500, Amiga 3000, and several PCs. I fell in love with SSI games on my Commodore 64, playing Rails West! and Colonial Conquest. Ever since, I have been an avid gamer. I still hold to the notions that I acquired during those days. Gameplay, not graphics, should be at the heart of a good game. People have forgotten that being more concerned with frame rate and lighting effects of late. The best games still hold up. Yes, I can still play Rails West! or Colonial Conquest and enjoy the experience. I have written about games for the late ST Informer and Computer Games Magazine/cdmag.com.
