Introduction

We have just finished studying Ancient Egypt in social studies.  The culture and history of Ancient Egypt are still important to us today.  Many of the rulers, events, and discoveries of these ancient peoples still fascinate today.

Every years large numbers of people travel to Egypt to see the famous monuments of Ancient Egyptian culture: the
pyramids, the Sphinx, and the other smaller surviving buildings.  When the tomb of the boy pharaoh commonly known as King Tut was found, headlines were made around the world as people rediscovered a more personal side to Ancient Egypt.  Not just in Tut's tomb, but in many, many treasures and riches have been found.  Furthermore, aspects of Egyptian culture are still seen today.  The "picture writing" of Hieroglyphs can be used for secret messages, a pyramid appears on U.S. $1 bills, and, of course, mummies can be found as movie monsters.  You will find out more about these fascinating people and their culture as you go through this subject sampler!

As you go through these links, think of ways that the culture of Ancient Egypt is similar and different to that of the Lakota as well as Sumerian and Mesoamerican civilizations--which we learned about earlier.
