Tips for Makeup Application
FOR LIPS
- Long Lasting Lipstick
The trick to making your lipstick last is layering. To extend wear, create a surface for color to adhere to. Begin by filling the entire lip with a neutral lip pencil. Next, apply your favorite lipstick over it. When lipstick fades, you'll be left with a pretty stain on lips. It's also good to prep your lips with a smoothing lip balm before applying lipsticklip balm adds moisture and actually helps lipstick go on smoother.
- Healthy, Natural Lips
Keep lips conditioned, even when you're not wearing color. Always have a lip balm handy. To remove excess dry skin, gently brush lips with a soft toothbrush. Healthy, conditioned lips look great with or without color.
- Sexy Pout
Gloss! Gloss! Gloss! Try using gloss over lipstick to enhance lips or use alone for a super pout. You can also dab a bit of gloss in the center of your lips to make the bottom lip very sexy.
FOR FACE
- Lasting Foundation
Proper application and oil-control is the key to making foundation last. Apply a small amount of moisturizer to freshly cleansed skin. Allow the moisturizer to dry for one minute. Warm a dab foundation between your fingers (the heat helps it penetrate skin). Finish with a few pats of pressed powder to eliminate excess oil and allow the foundation to set.
- Enhance Skin Tone Without Heavy Foundation
For a satiny, natural look, use a light tinted moisturizer or sheer foundation to even out skin tone. Apply a few dabs to the center of the face and blend outward with fingertips to blend. Next, use a concealer to hide breakouts and mask under eye circles. For touchups during the day, use oil-blotting papers to absorb the "greasies" without disturbing your makeup.
- Choose the Right Foundation
To find the right foundation shade for your skin color, apply a thin line of product to your jaw line. Compare the color to the skin on your face as well as your neck - your ideal shade will disappear and blend right in. The wrong shade will show up as too chalky or light or too dark.
- Concealer is a Girls Best Friend
It can cover your worst beauty bummers and still look natural. Pat some concealer onto dark circles and the corners of your inner-eye to appear fresh and rested. Choose a shade that's just a bit lighter than your skin tone. Tip: One with pink undertones will help camouflage the blue cast of dark circles.
- Moisturize!
Even oily skin needs a drink. The right amount of moisture plumps up the skin and makes it look radiant and healthy. Dry skin can add years, so dont skip this step. If you have oily skin, choose a water-based or oil-free moisturizer. If you have dry or normal skin, opt for a richer moisturizer.
FOR EYES
- Smudge-Proof Eyeliner
No need to live with linebacker eyes! Choose a long-wearing formula, and apply by dotting liner around the rim of eye rather than drawing a line. Set it with a shadow in a similar shade to increase wear.
- Creaseless Eye Shadow
Eye shadow creases if there is too much moisture on the eyelids. To avoid creasing, allow at least 5 minutes for moisturizer to sink in before applying eye makeup. A light dusting of a translucent powder will also help absorb any extra moisture.
- Enhance Small or Deep-Set Eyes
To enhance eyes, apply a light, highlighting eye shadow. If you have small eyes, dab it just under the arch of your eyebrows and in the center of the lid. For deep set eyes, apply the shadow from the crease of your lid up to the brow bone.
