One day Esther and Sadye were playing Myst on the computer. Sadye told Esther that she wished they really could go into Myst for real! Esther laughed and said she wished they could too. They had almost finished the game when Sadye happened to pick up the guide book and say out loud, " Oh, I really wish we could go into Myst." Suddenly, a voice was heard from the computer. "You can my friends." Both girls gasped and looked at the computer. "Did you hear that Sadye?!" exclaimed Esther. "Yes!" answered Sadye. "Did Atrus say that?" asked Esther. Sadye couldn't answer. Esther and Sadye looked into the computer screen at Atrus. He didn't look as if he had said anything at all. "That was weird," said Esther. "It almost sounded like he really said that". "Yeah!" said Sadye. "That was so wierd! Oh my gosh!" Esther went on. Sadye interrupted, "I know. That was almost scary the way he sounded like he was inviting us to MYST." "Wow!" said Esther shaking her head. After a minute or two they began to calm down. Sadye wanted to finish the game, so they turned back to the computer. After a moment Sadye started joking with Esther. "Esther lets pretend that Atrus really did say that!" "Ok," laughed Esther, deciding to have some fun. "We can Atrus?" Esther joked. "But how would we get in?" asked Sadye smiling. "Put your hand on the book," anwered Atrus. Both Girls gasped and froze in their seats. "Oh, my, gosh!" exclaimed Esther in a frightened voice. Sadye's eyes were so wide that you could see she was scared too. "Don't be afraid!" said Atrus. "I'm not your enemy". Neither girl said anything. Atrus continued, "I would rather be a friend. Please, ...If you would... let me explain for a moment. I was listening to your conversation and... I learned of your great interest in visiting my island of MYST, and....uh..I thought that.....uh..... I might consider having company. I, I haven't seen my close friends in..uh...quite sometime since that day I..uh..I lost something very important to me and all of us. Since then, we've all separated looking for it. It's been about 3 months now since I've seen or heard from any of them. I'm worried they may never find what I lost. For you see it isn't something you can find. Its...........something that finds you." Atrus paused for a minute. "If you are willing to come here and help me regain what I lost, I will be in your debt. I am all alone except for Catherine and Yeesha. We would be very grateful to have company again." After a pause he continued, "Will you....put your hand on the book?" Esther and Sadye sat, startled, thinking about all that Atrus had said. Still it was hard to believe this was really happening. Dare they go through the book. Frightened and terribly excited, Sadye turned to Esther and said. "Oh!" Let's do it!" Esther was undecided. She wondered what to do. How would they get back? Would it be dangerous? Suddenly, she knew they were going to do it. The MYST book suddenly appeared on the screen. Quickly, before they could change their minds they reach forth, and the book flew out of the monitor screen into their hands. Booki had been upstairs watching a movie, and it had just ended. She stretched, yawned and rose to turn off the TV. Then, she turned slowly towards the hall and proceeded to walk downstairs. "I'm hungry," she scowled. "Where are Esther and Sadye, anyway? I thought they were going to come upstairs and watch that movie with me." She walked into the pantry and got a few cookies that she began to wolf down. Seeing that the juice container had been left out, she poured a glass and gulped it down. "I wonder where they are. Esther! Sadye!" she called out. Hearing no answer she began to wander around the house. She called again as she walked into Grandma Mary's bedroom. She saw that the computer was on and went to see what was happening. On the other side of the bed she noticed a book lying upside down and openly sprawled on the floor. She approached it and picked it up. "Oh-h-h," she said as she saw the word MYST on the cover. She was standing in front of the computer monitor screen. She noticed that the MYST game was on. "This must be the guide book." she thought. She began to run her hand over the word MYST on the front cover. She opened it and gasped. There was a moving picture of MYST inside of the book! "Oh! My! Gosh!" she yelled. Before she realized what she was doing, she had slapped her hand down on the picture. Suddenly, everything was spinning and swirling, and she screamed as she felt herself sinking, being sucked into the book!
