The Knave I approached the castle tired and weary, My journey many days. Id come to seek my true love, Id let her get away. Id seen her from a distance, Many times before. But my place was in the crowd, Not close to her door. Armed guards relentless, I was turned away each time. But Id seen the way she looked at me, Her eyes locked on mine. This day I knew Id be the same, But still I had to try. I approached the guarded gates, WHATS THIS? THEY LET ME BY!!! Ushered to the chambers, Mumbling soon arose. The crowded benches at the sides, All looking at my clothes. Whispers filled the crowded room, I dared not look at them. One gentleman laughed out loud, The princess glared at him. Seated now he looked about, The quieted smoke filed room.. I caught a glance from the side, The look was that of doom. Yet I was led to the throne, Her seated majesty. I knew that I was on display, For all the world to see. I knelt before Her Ladyship, My eyes were diverted. With trembling voice, my story to tell, Of how my journey started. Princess in all your riches, Am I worthy of your goods? No prince am I, no kingdom owned, But a lamb lost in the woods. Please help me find a way to you, A path that I may find. For all Ive done is think of you, Its all that fills my mind. My soul is lost to you my love, No answers, I have sought. Help me choose the way my lord, For I am so distraught. I promise on this book in hand, My love forever true. I have no way of knowing, Lest you tell me what to do. My Ladyship an answer please, Ill even take a test. I have no doubt Ill pass it, If you should so request. In all this land youll find no other, A knave to love you more. My home Ill not return to, You may point me toward the door. Then I saw her rise and smile, She stood and thought a moment. Then she looked down at me, And pondered for a while. Circling me, my head was bowed, Though her footsteps I heard. Then she stood before me, Then heard her say these words. "Arise my Prince and welcome me, Were now King and Queen" With those words she took my hand, And on it she placed her ring. The courtyard cheered, The silence now was broken. She led me to the balcony, Repeated what shed spoken. Gayety and laughter, Bright spirits now prevailed. Dancing and jesters and music played, A celebration unveiled. She turned and placed her lips to mine, My head spun from control. The sweetest kiss Id ever known, As bells began to toll. The coronation nothing simple, Gathered crowds throughout the land. In an open carriage ride, We held high our wedding bands. The Masked Writer <-.-> 2001 T Lovett |
