As far as I can tell, hunting is VERY different than when our grandfathers went to the woods. It appears that in many areas of the country, hunting is for the elite. Access to good land is restricted by private owners, public lands are crowded and in many cases (from personal experience) unsafe. If you do not own land you must rely on the graciousness of someone else. A portion of the blame must be on some of the hunters out there who have tresspassed, shot at houses, and done other rude things. I can not imagine getting permission to hunt on land and bringing over a dozen guys at 8:00 AM to put on drives! I can't imagine climbing into a tree stand on opening day that I don't own or have not put up. I can not imagine shooting at a deer I could not hit just to scare it away from another hunter. Everyone of these examples have happened to me. There are more examples but that is not the point here. As an owner of land that have deer, rabbits, and other game available, my land is not posted. However, because people do not have the common courtesy to ASK permission I am considering it. I have 2 young kids whose parents are not going to worry about them getting shot at in the THEIR woods. If somebody stops by and asks to hunt I would,in most cases say yes. I think that you need to share your land as well as your knowledge. I also want to ask my fellow hunters, "What have you done for your sport?" "How do you represent yourself and your fellow hunters?" "Are you prepared to defend the sport in the eyes of the public and most importantly the ANTI - HUNTERS!?" I know that I am. If I have access to land that is not mine I am willing to help out at any time. If a kid has wounded a deer I am willing to stop my pursuit to help him. I also make sure that I am courteous to all out there. PLEASE DO THE SAMETHE END OF MY BABBLING!!
