Cool
Survey
A survey was passed out in a two week
span asking Ruamrudee International School students for their
opinions about this topic. Teenagers who filled out these forms
range between 14 to 18 years old, covering Grade 10 to Grade 12
students.
Here were the following questions that
were asked:
- What is your definition of a
“cool” person?
- How can a person become “cool?”
- Name one person and an item you
consider to be cool.
- Do you consider yourself to be
cool?
- Why is it important to be cool?
- What music do you consider to be
cool? What fashion do you consider to be cool?
The results that came out were
interesting indeed.
- The definition of a “cool”
person, most teenagers agree that it0 is people with
self- confidence and a person who is caught up with the
latest fashion. One must be friendly. An answer that was
repeated was that a “cool” person shouldn’t be
affected by the way others see them.
- 35% (18 votes) answered Question #4
that they do not think they themselves are cool while 52%
(27 votes) said that they were cool. The other 11% (6
votes) said that “sometimes” they are cool. Since
when was Ruamrudee International School filled with
“uncool” people?
- However, I received one answer (2%
of the vote) to Question #4 that stood out from the rest.
This correspondent didn’t give a “yes” or a
“no” answer, but instead wrote, “It’s not
important to be cool. To me, at least, some are so
insecure that they need the approval of others to feel
good about themselves.” Perhaps it’s something to
think about.
- Fashion that is in trend among
teenagers are:
Baggy jeans, Mini socks, T-shirts
(not specified to what brand or how it should be worn). To summarize it up, anything that is
comfortable and casual would be considered “cool” by
teenagers.
- Music that is “cool” for
teenagers are Hip-Hop (this type of music received the
most votes), Rap, R&B (Rock & Ballard), Trance,
and Rock.
What was interesting is that a few
students thought Classical music was cool for them, but I
usually associate this type of music to adults from the
1950s. One even mentioned Jazz. I guess there’s a
combination of music that could be opened during a dance,
and nobody from this school would complain.
