Plot Summary

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the already faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. On Coruscant, the Senate watches as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine aggressively strips away more and more constitutional liberties in the name of safeguarding the Republic. Yoda, Mace Windu, and their fellow Masters grapple with the Chancellor's disturbing move to assume control of the Jedi Council. And Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One destined to bring balance to the Force, is increasingly consumed by his fear the his secret love, Senator Padm Amidala, will die.

As the combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame: Obi-Wan undertakes a mission to destroy the dreaded Separatist military leader, General Grievous; Palpatine, eager to secure even greater control, subtly influences public opinion to turn against the Jedi; and a conflicted Anakin - tormented by unspeakable visions - edges dangerously closer to the brink of a galaxy-shaping decision. It remains only for Darth Sidious, whose shadow looms ever larger, to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic...and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

How the Book Ended

Anakin became Darth Vader after he bowed down to Palpatine, who revealed himself to be Darth Sidious. Vader headed straight towards the Jedi Temple with a battalion of clone troopers immediately after. The clones had turned on the Jedi, becoming merciless killers, because Sidious gave them an order called "order 66" that would make them turn on the Jedi. The contents of this order are unknown. Darth Vader and his troops slaughtered every Jedi in the Temple, while on other systems clone troopers attacked their commanding Jedi.

On Utapau, Obi-Wan's troops, led by Commander Cody, blast a fleeing Obi-Wan on an Utapau dragon-lizard, shredding the lizard and making Obi-Wan fall into the ocean. Obi-Wan got out of the water and escaped Utapau aboard General Grievous' spacecraft. On Kashyyyk, Yoda slaughtered the clones assigned to assassinate him and escaped Kashyyyk aboard a Wookiee escape pod.

Responding to Senator Bail Organa's call for any living Jedi, Yoda and Obi-Wan flew to his star cruiser and found there was a beacon coming from the Jedi Temple saying that the war is over and all Jedi should return to the Temple.

The two Jedi decided that there was most likely a trap at the Jedi Temple, so they snuck through the Temple and calibrated the beacon so it said that all Jedi should stay away from the Temple and Coruscant.

Obi-Wan watched some security videos to find out who was behind the massacre of Jedi and saw Anakin, now Vader, slash through Jedi after Jedi; then bow down to Sidious. The last of the Jedi then split up, Yoda going to the Senate Arena to face Sidious and Obi-Wan going to Mustafar to face Vader.

In the Senate arena, Yoda barely escaped and got into Bail's cruiser. Obi-Wan had snuck aboard Padm's starship and was headed to Mustafar, where Padm was heading because she thought Anakin was there. When she came out of the skiff, Vader hugged her. When Obi-Wan came out, Vader thought Padm brought him to Mustafar and betrayed him; so he nearly strangled her with the Force. R2-D2 and C-3PO carried her into the skiff while Obi-Wan and Vader fought, though neither was more powerful than the other. Eventually, Obi-Wan slashed off Vader's lower legs and his organic arm and left him to burn. Sidious, who had come in his shuttle, rushed over and Obi-Wan went to Padm's skiff and flew away.

In a hospital on the asteroid Polis Massa, a droid surgically removed Padm's children. Padm named the boy Luke and the girl Leia. After this surgery, Padm died. Bail Organa adopted Leia and took her to Alderaan, and Obi-Wan took Luke to Tatooine and gave him to Owen and Beru Lars.

On Dagobah, Yoda examined the swamp of his exile.

In another hospital, advanced medical droids attached mechanical limbs Darth Vader and fitted on his helmet. Sidious was waiting to see if his apprentice was alive. He was.

The Title

The title matches the book because the Sith get revenge on the Jedi by nearly wiping them out. Darth Sidious does this by earning a new, more powerful apprentice, Anakin Skywalker a.k.a Darth Vader. Anakin had more midi-chlorians, the very essence of the Force, than anyone save Master Yoda. Also, Vader, a Sith, tries to get revenge on Obi-Wan for supposedly betraying him, when it was really Anakin who betrayed Obi-Wan and became Darth Vader.

The book said when "order 66" was given "What is happening now is why the Clone Wars were fought in the first place. It is the reason for their existence. The Clone Wars have always been, in and out of themselves, from their very inception, the revenge of the Sith."

My Response

Some things I like about Revenge of the Sith are that it has an elaborate complex plot that binds Attack of the Clones, the prequel, and A New Hope, the sequel very well. In the beginning, the Clone Wars were still being fought, and when the Galactic Empire was created, Bail Organa said "Padm, what you're talking about - what we're not talking about - it could take twenty years [to overthrow the Empire.]!" In A New Hope, Luke is twenty years old. There is also a lot of action, as shown on Mustafar and Utapau. It is also very descriptive, and has much more dialogue and even has more scenes than the movie, though there is one scene in the movie that is not in the book.

Two characters I liked are General Grievous and Yoda. I like the cyborg general because I think it is amazing that his brain, vital organs, and spinal cord survived whatever fight or accident made him have to become a creature that is, quoting Obi-Wan Kenobi in Return of the Jedi about Darth Vader "more machine than man." I find it incredible that he only has two arms and two shoulders yet he can split his arms into four and dislocate his shoulders so two arms on the same side can move in opposite directions. Also, he has killed thousands of Jedi, and quoting Anakin Skywalker in A Phantom Menace to Qui-Gon Jinn after Qui-Gon said the reason he had a lightsaber was that he killed a Jedi, "But thats impossible."

The reason I like Yoda is because he is literally a "short green guy" yet he can hold off Darth Sidious in a lightsaber duel. Also, in Attack of the Clones he would have destroyed Darth Tyranus if Dooku had not distracted him by putting Anakin and Obi-Wan in mortal danger. I also think that his dialect is extremely interesting. For example, instead of saying "The Order did not change - because I did not let it change," he said "Change, the Order did not - because let it change, I did not."
