| Vizquel recorded one of the finast defensive seasons in the history of baseball while posting another solid offensive season, surpassing the 100 runs mark for the second straight year. His 66 RBI equaled his career best total set last year and he hit over .285 for the 4th time in the last 5 years. He tied the American League record for the most consecutive errorless games by a shortstop with 95 straight from September 26, 1999 to July 21, 2000... this tied Cal Ripkin's record of 95 set in 1980 (April 14 to July 27, 429 chances) Omar's season fielding % of .995 (648 TC, 3E) was the 2nd highest single-season total behind Ripkin's 1990 mark of .996 (1998 mark of .993 is the 3rd best mark of all-time) and again led all Major League shortstops in 2000 (3rd time in career) His three errors in 2000 tied Ripkin's 1990 record for fewest errors by a shortstop in a single-season of at least 150 games played. Has only 3 errors in his last 162 games at shortstop dating back to the end of the 1999 season... ended the season with a 20 game errorless streak. His .982496 career fielding % (7314 TC, 128 E, 1610 G) is still the highest total in MLB history among shortstops with 1000 games played and has won 8 straight AL Rawlings Gold Glove Awards from 1993 to 2000. Vizquel passed Elmer Flick for 5th on the club's all-time stolen base list w/213 SB (now owns 221 SB with Cleveland) He hit in 75 of his last 97 games, going .314 (117-373) with 15 2B, 5HR and 40 RBI (71 RS) from June 17 through the end of the season.
