nominations for her performance as Rose in
Rambling Rose, co-starring Robert Duvall and
her mother Diane Ladd. For the HBO film
Afterburn, she recieved an Emmy nomination
and a Golden Globe. She won Independent
Spirit Awards for Blue Velvet and Smooth Talk.
Dern's film career began at the age of
seven, while visiting her mother on the
set of Alice Doesn't Live Anymore.
Director Martin Scorese saw her and
asked to use her as an extra. At age 11, she
made her acting debut opposite Jodie
Foster in Foxes.
