Goldenboys

In the quiet time after the completion of episode fjord a new idea begin to take hold of the CTY members. Perhaps, they thought, the time had come to make a movie. Ambitious and utterly unrealistic, sure, but practicality was never a strong suit for CTY. Sean, Brooks, Errol, and David got together and planned out an elaborate semi autobiographical plot that traced the storyline of no fewer than six characters. It centered around a road trip on which all of the characters have adventures and learn more about themselves. The four of them worked out the details of the story and then Sean and Brooks wrote the first draft of the actual screenplay. It was a sprawling monster of over 200 pages. It would have meant a three hour plus movie but it was the only way to include all of the elements the group wanted. After the screenplay was completed the group got together again to do rewrites, but the process proved too frustrating. The enormity of the screenwriting process compelled them to abandon the idea of actually producing the film. The enormity of the screenwriting process compelled them to abandon the idea of actually producing the film. It was also sufficiently traumatic enough to put CTY on hiatus until the creation of the radio show two years later.

In 2000 Sean and Brooks were again inspired to take up the pen (or, well, keyboard actually) and rewrite GB for submittal to the project greenlight contest. The script was reworked radically, characters dropped or altered and the entire feel of the story changed into something funnier and more surreal. This version is much shorter but was not finished in time to enter the contest. Sequels were even planned: GB2 (Dark Summer) in which the characters drive into a worm hole and are transported to a future earth under attack by mutant sharkmen (featuring sharkbar!) and GB3D in which clones of the characters are created in a very distant future to battle a new menace (this time in 3D)!

The GB mythology plays a big part in the history of CTY's characters and in the history of the CTY group itself.

New!! Gilbert published the Goldenboys screenplay in a nice paperback edition. You can pick it up here!
