| What is in soap? | |||||
| Well soap is a made up of only 4 elements. The 4 elements are hydrogen carbon sodium and oxygen and what happens is when a fatty acid molecule that has a certain order to it and it meets with the sodium and the HO bond come along and bond with the molecule of fat or oil it separates some of the carbon and the hydrogen out and the carbon and in there place goes sodium. In a reaction like this 99% becomes a soap molecule and only 1% becomes glycerin molecule.
One side of the soap molecule is attracted to fats and repels water and the other end of the molecule loves water and wants to repel fats. This side of the soap molecule is the side with the two oxygen atoms and the sodium atoms. |
