Tuesday (sunny I think =P)
We started off the day
in some visitor center I think. Kyoto is famous for its many
temples. I wasn't too thrilled at first, I mean, temples? But
it turned out to be a really great day. There are no subway system
in Kyoto so we rode the bus. The first 2 temples we went were
Ginkakuji (silver roofed temple) Kinkakuji (golden roof temple).

The temples are
very neatly organized and very clean. They swept all the fallen
leaves away and even scrubs the handrails on the side. There were a
lot of students at the temples. Not quite sure if they were on field
trips or just traveling by themselves. Some of them seem to have no
chaperons. I bought some souvenirs including my favorite souvenir
from this trip, a nice scented fan. We also bought some good luck
charms and prayed at the temple.

We had lunch at a
little store next to the temple. There's quite a lot of climbing to
go to the temples since they tend to be built on hills. I remember I
bought this really baked thing w/ plum sauce I think on it. It was
really disgusting =( We also had some ice cream on the way, it was
very refreshing cuz it was really hot and a lot of walking.
We last visited Heian Palace. It
had a very large courtyard in the middle. There were some "wish
trees" where you can write your wish on a lil wooden board and hang
it up there. We asked these kindergarteners? to take pictures
for us. (I actually didn't see any chaperons which make me
worry......) The kids were all giggling cuz I asked them in a
really formal way (polite form) which they are probably not used to at
all. Imagine someone saying this to a 6 year old, "I'm terribly
sorry to bother you, but do you think you could be kind enough to do us a
favor and take a picture for my friends and I"
