Charting A New Standard For Action Games ![]() Naughty Dog Incorporated, the company responsible for tongue-in-cheek characters such as Crash Bandicoot has developed one of the most hyped up action shooters on the PS3 market. Claiming to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, the main character Nathan Drake, ships off to the Pacific and uncovers a wooden coffin. Inside, is a 400 year old map to the fabled treasures of El Dorado (translated as the City Of Gold). The map eventually leads Drake to an unknown island where conveniently placed mercs await, providing Drake with an excuse to shoot a lot of bad guys. The game is fairly impressive, and manages to blend hand-to-hand combat, run-and-guns, as well as puzzle genres. The small arms range from 9mm handguns to rip-and-go Kalashnikovs. As for melee action, Drake is capable of performing a variety of moves. Among them are his signature haymaker strikes, his power roundhouse kicks and his face-smashing dropkicks. While Uncharted remains predominately action oriented, the odd puzzle will resurface here and there. Some puzzles are plainly straightforward, where solving said puzzle requires vine swinging from Point A to Point B. Others however, can be ridiculously frustrating, what with the backtracking and all. Uncharted's cinematic approach is brilliant. The visuals seamlessly blend in actual gameplay with prerendered cutscenes. This game represents the newest standard of all next-gen videogames. Uncharted will retail for approximately $54.99 at BestBuy. 2007-12-02 09:09:23 GMT
