Doctors are the purported healers of society and the miracle workers of our communities. But OOPS! the potential oversights they can make here, and the ones they can make there make me watch them with a tad of cynicism. So when I hear news of lasers being commissioned for medical use, I’m understandably sceptical. After all, lasers are the things you see in the greatest shows on Earth (Star Trek, Stargate, Battlestar etc…) Ya see, my policy from the start has been to always keep space guns in space and away from the hands of a grinning physician. And for that reason, I'm quite uncomfortable with the notion that future treatments may involve phaser weapons. Sure, we see this magical stuff; practically ALL THE TIME aboard the USS Enterprise, but that show’s been off a good 40 years already. And to be quite honest, known of us have the medical finesse that God has bestowed Mr. Deforest Kelly.  

“It’s science fiction made real,” says the doctor from Tel Aviv. During his explanation in the video, he’s so incredibly enthused that he refers to the device’s resemblance to Star Trek gadgetry. The doctor suggests that the laser pen could be made readily available to less-experienced personnel in battle-situations for use. And in his words, he says that “they could do it exactly like they do it in the Star Trek series…” well I certainly hope not. The video says that laser welding is supposedly more effective then conventional suturing (the seal is watertight and less inclined to tear).
