The Shooter - Firefighting Is Fun Again!
photo

Actually this is a fire extinguisher. Being an avid gamer, first impressions made me think that this was some sort of fan-inspired prop from a First Person Shooter, like Halo. But no, this really is a fire extinguisher. The Shooter, as it is more prominently known, is the brainchild of Eunjung Kim, Yangwoo Kim, and Junyi Heo. The principle is that firefighting should be as easy (and as fun) as aiming and pressing buttons. Cool thing is that each press of the trigger releases an entire round of carbon dioxide gas at your target. There are an additional eight rounds stored inside the chamber, and all my itchy-trigger fingers hope they can be fired automatically. A laser pointer is also integrated beneath the barrel for some high-precision work. An alarm system will also 'sound off' for the silly purpose of warning your friends to back off if they can't see the raging flames.

I must take issue with the location of the trigger. If it's on the top of the unit, aiming is in no way possible. I would think that a pistol grip would make The Shooter work much better.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not really surprised that a gun-style fire extinguisher is the work of Koreans. In fact, since the designers come from a nation of super-gamers, I'd expect no less. Thinking back though, maybe this actually is a fan-inspired prop from an FPS. Shotgun-like ammunition, laser sights, reloadable mechanism... Throw in a little engineering know-how and you've got The Shooter.
