Too Human - Overview, Video and Hacks
photo

Too Human is some sort of new action RPG being developed by Silicon Knights. It's received a lot of hype thanks in part to some dodgy Internet forums. Essentially, the game revolves around Baldur and his growing indecisiveness toward cybernetic enhancements.

Two choices are available: remain human or take the robot parts.

There's no true depth in either choice. Choosing robotism doesn't push you toward ending #1 and choosing humanism doesn't push you towards ending #2. I hate that. This is completely unlike Bioshock. At least in Bioshock, if you cowboy the whole thing and smite all the evil little girls, you become ruler of Rapture, which in my opinion is the best ending. No, as an RPG, Too Human remains wantonly linear. The only thing that may be affected through these half-assed decisions is the combat aspect of the game (flicking an analog stick). Fundamentally, a human-oriented approach equates to combo-intense knifing, whereas cybnertics equate to brute force. Most assuredly, since such a choice can now be simplified as either quicker or stronger, it's not really a brain-tickling choice at all. Get quicker, of course. And ironically, the character himself cannot become Too Human. It is however, possible for enemies to snatch human limbs (their running objective is to steal body parts to become more human).

The game has already taken some critical jabs. Stuff like "short," "repetitive," and "Mafia this" seem to be the general negatives. Gameplay is not amply explained throughout, so keep the game manuals. The music is supposed to be real good though. In an attempt to fan some of the pre-release fires, Silicon Knights President Denis Dyack has suggested that the gamer demographic to, "Put Up or Shut Up." Pretty ballsy to insult all your potential customers when your game isn't even released yet.

As of yet, there are 5 different fighter classes available. They are listed in order of likability.

5) Defender

Weak, weak. Takes massive loads of punishment. Has extremely big health bar. Comparable to legless tortoise.

4) Bioengineer

Less resilient then Defender. Pampers himself with near infinite health boosts.

3) Beserker

Nuts, absolutey nuts. Handles large things: axes, pikes, electric swords. Beheads enemies. Can beat people up underwater.

2) Champion

Second in everything. Equally mediocre in close quarted and ranged combat.

1) Commando

The Alpha Male. The Gun Kata. John Preston. John Mclain. John Rambo. Extremely well-versed in all projectile weapons. Blows things whole in a flurry of stylized lights. Truly the best class hands down.

For those of you hungry for a taste of Too Human, the demo is available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace. When you start out, you only get one of the five classes. But you will receive an additional class as each week passes on. But no one's that patient. Here are the hacks.

Unlock first three classes

1) Disconnect Xbox 360.

2) Move system clock ahead one month. (Devious, isn't it?)

Get the remaining two

1) Open up the class screen.

2) Tap the left analog stick whilst pressing the A button.

I assume you have mastered the art of simultaneous stick flicking and button pressing. If not, you're a horse.

Or in the alternative watch the trailer.

Too Human is slated for release on August 19th.
