The Computer That Understands Hand Gestures, The Computer THAT CARES
photo

Toshiba's Qosmio G55 - Q802 is a new type of computer.

My friends say that I talk with my hands -- I tell them that I don't know what the hell they're talking about. Because if they're referring to the multitude of hand movements I gracefully carry out during conversation, they're wrong. Dead wrong. That is not talking with hands. That is orating. And so, whenever I'm writing, or composing knee-weakening speeches, I find myself behaving as if I were delivering a live keynote--because you can never stop the magic.

I'm so glad that a computer finally recognizes this near-universal truth: typing blows. I'd much rather compose verbally and mouse-around using hand gestures. Many people would agree. Thankyou Toshiba. Many returns. Apparently, the laptop uses information it receives from the built-in webcam and translates in real-time what its seen. The PS3's Cell supercomputer chip helps accomplish this.

Things that G55 let you do (so far...)

Stop a video with your palm

Open a folder with the flick of a thumb

Navigate with your knuckles

Who knows? Toshiba's latest creation may find its way into the gaming sector. Perhaps an EyeToy for the computer? Until then, G55's features serve as an attractive alternative to conventional computer navigation. Coupled with some hands-free typing software, you can expect to see this in my grasp.
