Minesweeper actually cheats you out of your success.
The game spawns mines after your first click and plants additional ones mid game. It sometimes even transfers mines to the square you've targeted. I've said this many times, "Minesweeper is rigged." And that explains a whole lot because I find that most of the games I've foolishly dedicated an iota of time to -- just don't work out. I utilize all the proper tools and even entertain the game makers by patiently planting red poles here and there. But at the end of the day, I find myself losing more games then I care to mention. Apparently, a hacker based in Connecticut shares this same sentiment as well. He went so far to prove it that he wrote a computer progam using OllyDbg and CheatEngine. This kid is so dedicated that he knocked the game on its malevolent ass in one morning.
Strike back at minesweeper now! I found this cheat on the internet that allows players to destroy minesweeper's fishy antics. This is supposed to work on the Windows XP version. I'm not sure that this holds true for Vista because the game does offer one-click KOs (more then I'd like to mention).
Cheat Procedure
1. Open Minesweeper
2. Place cursor on middle of game
3. Type in: 'xyzzy' and hit 'SHIFT ENTER ENTER'
If you execute the commands successfully, this tiny pathetic pixel on the top-left corner of the monitor will turn white. Whenver your cursor runs over a mine, the pixel will turn black. Not the most effective system, but it is does work to some extent. I choose not use this cheat because the size of the pixel truly is pathetic. It hurts my eyes when I squint to look for that mystery 'blank.' Whenever that happens, I do more productive things like play Katamari. Plus, cheating is for squares. If you do use this cheat, it goes without saying that you probably don't want a white background...you square.
