Playstation 3 - Best For Less
photo

Sony Playstation America has recently shaved $100 off the Playstation 3. Even with the price reduction, the Playstation 3 still remains as the most expensive gaming system on the market, with its price tag surpassing even Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Elite. While the console does boast superior graphics as well as a basic hard drive of 60 gigabytes, its performance in relation to sales has been widely overestimated. Vice versa however, even with the lack of enhanced graphics or a hard disk, the Nintendo Wii has managed to become an international best seller because of its inherent motion sensing capabilities. Sometime next year, Sony will unveil a repackaged version of the Playstation 3 with a preloaded version of “Motorstorm.” The modified Playstation 3 will be available for $600 and its 80 gigabyte hard drive will be intended for mass downloads from Sony’s online network.

By all counts, Sony’s price reduction should undoubtedly boost sales from 80,000 units to an estimated approximation of 120,000. Personally however, I’d wait before dishing out another wad of cash. With the E3 conference coming up, Microsoft may respond by slashing their prices on the Xbox 360. In fairness, it’s highly plausible that Sony is still holding out and may react by further reducing costs.
