In a nutshell, Chrome OS runs a browser that lets you access all the apps and services that are readily available by Google. While your browser already has access to a wide range of Google applications, Chrome OS can still do a lot for your netbook. |

| Chrome is small and it boots fast. So fast in fact that start-time can very much be measured in seconds � not minutes. Why? Chrome OS was engineered to run on lower powered Atom and ARM processors. Plus, the many web-based applications that the OS boosts don�t water down the speed on the client�s end. So what does that mean? You get a faster and meaner computer as well as more battery life because of the accelerated boot time. |
| 1) COST |
| Netbooks were meant to be cheap, but a large portion of what you pay for is jacked up by the presence of a Windows License. Every copy of Windows OS you�ve received has been slapped senseless by a whopping tax that Windows imposes. That�s why there�s increased love for Linux based operating systems. Chrome OS is Linux-based and pretty much free. Consequently, your prospective netbook will cost you a whole lot less. |
| 4) PORTABILITY |
| Nobody likes configuring their computers for every piece of hardware. The same goes for software updates. The thing about Windows OS is that it necessitates a whole slew of drivers. OS X, or any version of Linux will also cause a lot of problems on your netbook because the machine wasn�t designed for it. While some bits of code still need to be worked out, Google plans on coming up with an OS that allows you to install it on any machine and have it work. |
| Your netbook is light enough as it is. Imagine the added convenience when you find that much of your data is stored on Google services such as Gmail, Google Docs, Picasa�
Needless to say, all the aforementioned services are built-in to Chrome OS and therefore can be accessed anywhere � on the road, at the beach, in your home. Google Gears even allows you to access that same information without the need for a wireless connection. |
| Anything you do on your computer locally can be done on the Web. Google has already pushed out some truly useful apps. The only thing that they�ve yet to refine is a web based media player. I�m not referring to YouTube where seemingly arbitrary videos lurk. I�m talking about software reminiscent of Songbird, where you can sync tracks with your iPod, or even the VLC Video Player. Google should take up the idea, and produce a few of its own for their OS -- and it will. |
