Protein Synthesis for 300:

Describe 3 types of chromosomal mutations. Scroll down to see answer.

Non disjunction: homologous chromosomes fail to separate, results in trisomy or monosomy.
Polyploidy: Meiosis 2 occurs, but cytokinesis fails. End up with an extra set of chromosomes; kills animals, makes plants stronger.
Rearrangements:
~ Deletion: Part of chromosome is deleted
~ Inversion: Parts of a chromosome are flipped.
~ Translocation: part of a chromosome is attached to another chromosome.
