Whine and Cheez
April 14, 2000

On April 14, we hosted Whine and Cheez. The turnout was great and a good time was had by all! The overall favorite wine of the evening was the 1998 Andrew Quady Electra Orange Muscat, California, a crisp, light muscat with a refreshing, sweet orange flavor that everyone enjoyed.

My personal favorite of the evening was the 1997 Clos Du Val Carneros Chardonnay that Alex brought, which was semi-dry and oaky with a strong and smooth buttery finish. I was very sad to see it go, but it was a real treat to drink!

You can see the rest of the wine list here.

Planning Amee's Bridal Shower
January 25, 2003

(from my LiveJournal, 1/23/03)

We went to the happiest place on earth last night - Beverages and More. For the bridal shower Alex picked out a bottle of champagne and a Portuguese white, and I am donating a Beaulieu 1999 Rutherford Cab and a Chateau St. Jean 2000 Chard. For the hotel I also picked out a Quady orange blossom muscat and Dow's 10 year Tawny port (mostly for myself), and am donating a bottle of Domaine Chandon bubbly (because I hate bubbly).

I talked to Amee's sister last night and we planned out the menu for the bridal shower:
  • Hummus, Baba ganoush, and pita triangles
  • Cheese!: Fromager d'affinois with pears, honey, and walnuts; Camberzola with apples; Emmenthaller with grapes
  • Stuffed zucchini cups
  • Pasta with a caper and sundried tomato cream sauce
  • Spring mix salad with grapefruit, almonds and a raspberry vinagrette
  • Chocolate covered strawberries
You can see we are on a budget, and time crunch, but I think it will still come out tasty and the wines and champagne should go okay with most of it.

Our Wine-and-Cheese Engagement Party
March 30, 2003

Oops. We had the party and there was alot of wine and alot of cheese, but what with it being my birthday/our engagement/30 people bringing wines and cheeses, I don't remember much of anything. Sorry. I can say, though, that a few friends chipped in to bring me a mini-wheel of Petit Basque, a fantastic Basque sheep's milk cheese, and later I discovered that you can freeze the cheese and thaw it again in the fridge and it's as right as rain again. :)

Dinner Party at Brent's
June 7, 2003

An unbelievable potluck! The menu can be found here. The Cote-Rotie (E. Guigal, 1998) was round but not heavy, with a rich plum attack and a cedar follow-up. The Sauternes (Chateau Lafurie-Peyraguey 1989) was given to Brent as a gift almost 15 years ago and followed him from New York to Canada to a wamr apartment in Oakland and finally to Berkeley. Nevertheless, it was opened with perfect timing, and was rich with perky pear and nectarine, but just enough orange to keep you awake, and brought out the very best in the roquefort. Fantastic!
