Chateau Lafurie-Peyraguey Sauternes 1989 Pears with cheese and prosciutto (Brent) Wisconsin cheese-and-beer soup (Jen) Beef and potato pasties (Heather) Portobello mushroom tower (Brent) Spanokopita (Sally) Gazpacho (Sally) Chocolate mousse cake (Brent) Cheese platter: roquefort, St. Agur blue, baby Swiss, Petit Basque, nectarines, peaches, and grapes The Cote-Rotie was round but not heavy, with a rich plum attack and a cedar follow-up. The Sauternes was given to Brent as a gift almost 15 years ago and followed him from New York to customs in Canada to a warm apartment in Oakland and finally to Berkeley! Nevertheless, it was opened with perfect timing, and was rich with perky pear and nectarine, but just enough orange to keep you awake, and brought out the very best in the roquefort. |
