Chitchat and Chatter
Oooh, Girl Stuff!
Books for Girls:

Here are some books that I recommend for girls:

Angelou, Maya.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.  This book is about a girls life and deals with lots of *issues.*

Meyers, Odette.
Doors to Madame Marie.  This book is about a Jewish girl's coming of age during and after World War II.

Girls Know Be
st.  This non-fiction book has various articles written by girls for girls.
Indulge in Girly Stuff:

Finally it's Friday, after a long crazy week with too much homework.  You finally get to relax.  Here are some great ways to kick back.

1.  Watch TV and eat microwave popcorn.

2.  Take a bubble bath.

3.  Read a book.

4.  Spend quality time with the internet and a box of Krispy Kremes.

5.  Put on a facial mask.

6.  Go shopping with Mom.

7.  Do your fingernails.  I'm not talking one coat of pink polish.  Layer glitter over a solid color!  Add patterns like dots or stripes!  Stick nail decals on!
Issue of the Month: Shaving Your Legs:

Could the gorilla at the zoo be mistaken for your sibling?  Are boys mocking you?  Do you feel like your legs are too ha
iry?

I recently started shaving my legs, and I would like to take the time to answer some frequently asked questions.

Q:  How do I shave my legs?
A:  Get your mom to help you.  She's probably been shaving for a long time so she'll have lots of tips.  If she doesn't shave, get a book on *girly stuff* to help you.

Q:  How often do I have to shave?
A:  Weekly.  Or you can just shave whenever you want to wear capris or shorts.

Q:  I'm scared I'll cut myself.
A:  It's really not that hard.  Go carefully.  If you're really worried, use your mom's or dad's old razor--it will be less sharp.  And avoid shaving bony parts of your legs if you're not comfortable.

Q:  How long does it take?
A:  It depends.  The first time could take anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour.  Once you get better, you can shave in under 15 minutes (though some of my friends still report needing an hour to shave).

Q:  My parents won't let me shave!  Help!
A:  Here are some points you can bring
up:
*  Many girls become depressed and are teased because their legs are hairy.
*  My legs may not seem hairy to you, but they do to people my age.
*  I'm going to shave eventually.  If you never let me shave, I'll just start shaving when I leave home and will end up cutting my legs.  Isn't it better that I start shaving now when you can help me shave carefu
lly?
If you want, try looking on the internet or in books for more points.

Q:  Should I shave my underarms too?
A:  Only if you think you need to.  It's a little bit harder than shaving your legs, so wait until you've become good at shaving your legs before you start.
