General Information About Australia
Upon deciding where to study overseas, I narrowed my my choices pretty quickly to only those English speaking countries.  So, it was either England or Australia to choose between...and I chose Australia. It's sheer beauty, the many adventure opportunities, the mystery, the Outback, the Great Barrier Reef...it was calling my name. "Sara, Sara...follow the road to Oz!"
Plus, if I went in college, I could see this place at an age which would allow me to take part in more extreme Aussie adventures!
After filling out endless forms and getting all the paper work done, I enrolled in the orientation class to study overseas. It was here when I discovered how little I knew about Australia. I'll give you a brief description of the country, it's geography, history, population, and some facts that we all should know!
Geography:
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world (2,967,892 square miles or 7,686,850 square kilometers) and it is only slightly smaller than the United States.  It is the only country that occupies an entire continent and it is also the driest inhabited continent in the world.  About one third of the land is desert and another third is composed of poor-quality land.  A long chain of mountains, The Great Dividing Range, runs along the Pacific coast.  Australia is divided into 6 states and 2 territories: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, and The Australian Capital Territory.
