1. "Using IT to Grow" Industry Week, Cleveland; Dec 21 1998, Scott Leibs.  This article mentions some of the benifits of the internet use to businesses. In particular it mentions the sharing of information on large projects for shipbuilder Newport. Also mentioned is the intergration with the customer and the quick NPD process and distribution from sales representitives.
2. "Enabling the Supply chain with the Internet" Electronic news 2/26/2001, Bryan Harris.  This article poses some issues that arise in supply chain managment due to the Internet. While not talking about the boat building industry this article provides some useful points of discussion that have much relavance for the boat building industry. These include: managing relationships, managing delivery, managing design and managing procurement.
3. "Information sharing boosts it's value" Information week, september 1998, Tom Stein.  This article proports the benefits of information sharing through partnerships within industry, via the Internet using the boat building industry as an example.
4. "Learn and earn through testing on the Internet" Marketing Research fall 2000, Gordon Wyner. This article talks about the benifits of market research and product testing through the internet. The ideas conveyed in this article can be applied to the design and production of boats.
5. "Caught in the net ", Professional Engineering March 2001,Helen Wraige. This article talks about using the internet and internet based technology in the development of products accross all industry. The article mentions how the Internet through colaboration and email will reduce costs and increase efficiencies.
6. "Design grasps the Net", Professional Engineering, Jan 2000, Dinah Greek This article talks about the importance of the Internet in the product design process. Stating the Internet allows design in real time through online collaboration with suppliers and customers in geographically disparate locations. In particular the article goes on to mention 3D streaming and its importance in the design process.
7. "Teaching marketing research with the internet." Journal of education for business, 1998 By Sum-Siu and Faung Chau. This article talks about things that are perceived to be important in the development of a web-site, stating that value comes from the easy of use of the site.
8. "The internet as a marketing tool." Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, 1998, Mcgaugher and Mason. The article evaluates the internet as a marketing tool using the consumer behaviour model of problem recognition-post purchase behaviour. The implications for the boat building industry are that the internet can be used to target consumers at each of these five stages, as shown in the article.

The implication of this for the boat building Industry will be the availibility and ease of supply and dealings with both suppliers and customers. All now available in one marketplace.
10. "Build it and they will come", Marketing Managment, 1999, Phillip Hendrix. This article talks about the benifits of Websites and online shopping to consumers. The benifits listed are important to be kept in mind by boat builders when developing a web presance so core benifits consumers seek can be met. Included is: erducing price, reducing time, reducing shopping hassle, increasing service, increasing selection and increasing acessability.
11. "Competitive strategies for Internet marketers in emerging markets." Competitivness Review, 2001, S Bandyopadhyay. The articvle advises marketers to use the internet for providing information not sales. This is relevanty to the boat building industry. The article takls about how to promote through the internet.
12. "Business to business online purchasing: Suppliers impact on buyers adoption and usage intent", Journmal of supply chain managment, 2001, Schmelz et al. The article predicts cost savings for both buyers and sellers B2B on the internet. The proposed reason behind this is a supplier thrust.
